Welcome to the August gear highlight post. This week we’re talking about…you guessed it…my lights. I have a few, but these two are the ones I use the most. Lantern for inside the tent and headlamp for going to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

AlpsWolf LED Lantern
This lantern has served me well this past season and I will continue to use it until it fails. Plus, it matches my tent, so even better.
I chose this one mainly because it’s rechargeable. Dealing with batteries or fuel lamps is not something I’m interested in. It has six different light modes: flashlight high and low, lantern high and low, red warning, and red strobe. There is even a handle that pops out so you can carry it as a flashlight if it suits your fancy.
Likes
- Rechargeable! Like I said above, I have no interest in disposing of batteries or working with fuel lamps. Plus, I have never had this lose charge while I was camping.
- Lightweight
- Durable. If you’ve been here any length of time, you know I tend to drop things. This has made it through a few tumbles just fine.
- Low and high settings
- Come with clips for hanging and a handle for carrying around like a flashlight.
- Can use it to charge devices. I’ve never done this, but it is nice to have the option.
Dislikes
- One button to rule them all. You have to toggle through all the settings to get the one you want and to turn it off.
- There is no power indicator to show where your battery life is at.
Price
When I purchased it, the lantern cost me around $22. Not bad for what I got. At the time of writing, it is on sale for $10. Make sure to check it out if you’re in the market for a new camping light.
Ozark Trail Headlamp
This headlamp came in a camping package with a couple of other lights (and batteries), knife, mug, wet/dry bag, and paracord bracelet with a whistle. It has an adjustable head strap and four settings: low/high white light, red light, and red strobe. The light can be angled.
All in all, it is a basic headlamp. It works as intended and does the job. I don’t put it on my head because I’m sensitive to pressure, so I can’t speak to sizing. The strap is adjustable, so I’d assume it would fit many sizes. I tend to wrap it around my hand and use it that way.
My only dislike is that it takes batteries.
Price
This package was bought at an auction as a gift for me for $20. Originally, the price was $25. At this time, this box set is no longer available.
If you’d like to see something specific I use highlighted in next month’s post comment it below! You can find the majority of my gear here.
