Greenleaf State Recreation Area

  • by

Welcome to the second installment of my new series–State Recreation Areas! Like I said last week, I want to talk about the areas I am unlikely to go since they aren’t geared toward me. You might enjoy them though! So if they’re your thing, please check them out and let me know how you like it. Next up is Greenleaf State Recreation Area!

Greenleaf State Recreation Area Information

Greenleaf State Recreation Area (SRA) is located in Ellsworth Township, MN. It is 385 acres and is open for day use only. According to Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota (2026), Greenleaf is small and rustic with minimal development, which means, there are no other facilities here. However, you will see two lakes, Greenleaf and Sioux, as well as several wetlands. This SRA is best for fishing, especially panfish and largemouth bass. You’ll see plenty of waterfowl here too. There is a short hiking trail, that’s about a mile, as well as a fishing pier.

There isn’t much information out there about this recreation area, as it’s small and created to protect pristine shoreline. BUT, if you’re in the area and looking to experiencing the meadow and lakes, definitely give it a shot.

Other thoughts

This one is short and sweet, but I feel it’s still important to bring attention to the lesser known areas. They deserve some love too. The photos on both of the websites show how beautiful and peaceful looking this place is.

All of this info came from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website, so credit where credit is due. Click here to view the original source.

I’ve visited other SRAs, if you missed those, check them out: LaSalle, Minnesota Valley, Iron Range, and Cuyuna Country.

Be safe out there! REMEMBER YOUR MAPS AND PASSPORT STAMPS!! Seeyalaterbye <3
