October Gear Highlight: Sticks

  • by

Welcome back! Time to talk about a tool that I am glad I started using (thanks to one of my hiking buddies). Hiking sticks, trekking poles, what ever you want to call them, they’re great. Once you figure out the best way to use them to keep you upright and not covered in mud.

Hiking sticks, trekking poles, whatever you call them…

The poles I use are the ones I got with my first set of snowshoes, but they are perfect for hiking. They seem to be pretty on par with other poles, so if you already have some they can be used all year round.

Likes

  • Adjustable. They can be sized in two different areas and have measurements on them to find your perfect fit.
  • Good grip. The handle has a grip shaped into it. It makes the handle comfortable to hold.
  • Wrist straps. Keeps the poles in your possession instead of on the ground.
  • Easy to maintain. The adjusters do come loose occasionally and it’s a simple tightening of a screw to fix. They are also easy to clean as they can be sprayed or wiped down.

Dislikes

  • There isn’t anything I don’t like about these. Basic sticks doing the work.

Price

Trekking poles/hiking sticks vary in price if you’re buying them on their own (not with snowshoes like me). I have seen them run from about $20 to $160, so it depends on what you need them for. Find some that will work for your budget and go for it.

If you’d like to see something specific I use highlighted in next month’s post comment it below! You can find the majority of my gear here.
